چکیده

Abstract Background A retrospective observational study was conducted to assess the prevalence of maturity onset diabetes young (MODY) in a large paediatric population Southern Italy newly diagnosed with diabetes. Clinical and genetic features identified MODY patients were also described. Methods Genetic testing performed children adolescents who presented autoantibody negativity fasting C-peptide levels ≥ 0.8 ng/mL. Patients low insulin daily dose optimal glycaemic control after two years from investigated for monogenic diabetes, regardless their autoimmunity status and/or levels. Results 6.5% found. In particular, glucokinase-MODY most common type MODY. The mean age at diagnosis 9.1 years. presentation biochemical data heterogeneous among belonging same group. Conclusions We found relatively high new comparison literature data. Our findings highlight that more detailed clinical evaluation along easier less expensive approachability may allow diagnosing an increasing number cases. correct, prompt is crucial choose appropriate treatment offer adequate counselling.

Clinical features and treatment of maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY)

Maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is a heterogeneous group of disorders that result in β-cell dysfunction. It is rare, accounting for just 1%-2% of all diabetes. It is often misdiagnosed as type 1 or type 2 diabetes, as it is often difficult to distinguish MODY from these two forms. However, diagnosis allows appropriate individualized care, depending on the genetic etiology, and allow...

Genetic and clinical characterisation of maturity-onset diabetes of the young in Spanish families.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the frequencies of the major maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) subtypes in a panel of Spanish families and to assess phenotypic differences in patients with the different subtypes of MODY. METHODS Forty-eight subjects from twenty families with clinical diagnosis of MODY were studied. They underwent a standardised clinical examination and a 75-g oral glucose ...

ABCC8-Related Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY12): Clinical Features and Treatment Perspective

Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is a heterogeneous group of diseases associated with gene mutations leading to dysfunction of pancreatic β-cells. Thirteen identified MODY variants differ from each other by the clinical course and treatment requirement. Currently, MODY subtypes 1-5 are best-studied, descriptions of the other forms are sporadic. This article reports a MODY12 clinical ...

Genetic, metabolic and clinical characteristics of maturity onset diabetes of the young.

Maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is a genetically and clinically heterogeneous subtype of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) characterised by early onset, autosomal dominant inheritance and a primary defect in insulin secretion. To date, three MODY genes have been identified on chromosomes 20q (MODY1/hepatic nuclear factor (HNF)-4alpha), 7p (MODY2/glucokinase) and 12q (M...
